Bikini or Brazilian wax: everything you may need to know
A. THE BENEFITS
Most ladies find themselves more pleased with the results of waxing than other temporary hair removal options like shaving, epilation, and hair removal creams even though Brazilian waxing is rather painful to some ladies. Why? Our top five benefits include:
Not only does waxing remove hair, it’s a physical exfoliation that removes lifeless surface skin dead cells and your skin will be applied after wax lotion to calm down, nourish the waxed skin, which means you’re receiving hair removal and skincare all in one.
2. SMOOTHER SKIN
Because you are removing hair from the root, exfoliating the skin as well as add more nutrients for the waxed area, you’ll probably find that your skin is smoother after a wax, the pores will be much smaller than before.
3. LONGER-LASTING RESULTS
Since your hair is being removed by the root, it will take much longer to grow back than shaving or using hair removal creams
4. THINNER AND FINER HAIR
When your hair does grow back after waxing, it will grow back weaker, finer, softer and sparser. With shaving or hair removal creams, the hair will regrow faster, thicker, and stronger.
5. MINIMAL IRRITATION
Many people find hair removal methods like epilation and hair removal creams irritating to the skin. However, waxing rarely causes this problem if it’s done by a professional specialist.
B. BIKINI WAXING VS. OTHERS?
Among 5 benefits of waxing mentioned above, the unique benefit that makes waxing a better choice compared with other hair removal methods is waxing removes dead skin cells on the surface for better nourishment and smoothness. Apart from that difference, is waxing more advantageous than other methods?
1. BIKINI WAXING VS. SHAVING
Waxing provides smoother and longer lasting results by removing the hair from the root, whereas shaving cuts the hair right at the skin’s surface, causing a prickly feel days after shaving. Waxing is also healthier because it provides a physical exfoliation, removes lifeless surface dead cells and makes the pores smaller due to finner hair regrowth. With shaving, the hair regrows stronger and bigger each time leading to enlarged pores and more dark hair in future. You only need waxing for every 3-4 weeks, whereas, you may need shaving every day.
2. BIKINI WAXING VS. EPILATION
Epilation is very similar to tweezing, it can remove the hair roots. However, because epilation is done by machine without heating, it’s significantly more painful and the hair roots sometimes cannot be removed completely. Waxing provides faster, less pain and longer lasting results with far less discomfort because the heat of hot wax used for bikini wax will open the pores before removing the hair roots.
3. BIKINI WAXING VS. HAIR REMOVAL CREAMS
Waxing provides smoother and longer lasting results by removing the hair from the root. Chemical creams only remove the hair right at the skin’s surface. Just be warned, these can be very irritating to the skin as the cream can cause burning if left on for too long. Chemical ingredients may be dangerous for the bikini area.
4. BIKINI WAXING VS. LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Thinking about laser hair removal? Well, results vary due to women’s varying skin tones and hair types. It can also be very expensive with high quality machine and good service provider and you may not have to think about hair removal for months or years. However, waxing provides smooth results for all people and is very cost effective.
C. DOS AND DON’TS OF BIKINI WAXING
Relax. Breathe. The pain that sometimes gets associated with waxing is mostly caused by the anxiety and tension a person feels while on the waxing bed. The more relaxed you are, the less painful the experience will be. Think about smooth bikini area you will have after waxing.
- Inform your Wax Specialist of any medications you are taking, such as antibiotics, Accutane, or topical creams you’re using, such as Retin-A, which may not be good when doing waxing.
- Wear comfortable cotton panties to avoid irritation if it’s your first time receiving a bikini wax.
- Tan the area you plan to wax 24 to 48 hours before reservation. We also recommend waiting 24 to 48 hours after a wax before tanning. The freshly waxed skin is susceptible to sun damage if exposed too soon.
- Swim in the swimming pools as the water there is not good for your waxed skin.
- Consume alcohol or significant amounts of caffeine before your reservation. Both can cause your pores to tighten, resulting in a more uncomfortable experience.
- Use any numbing creams. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they do not penetrate the skin deep enough to be effective.
D. DALINK SPA’S BIKINI WAXING STEPS
We suggest you cleanse the bikini area with intimate gel before coming to spa or you can do that at our spa before waxing.
Our Professional Wax is a hard and hot wax will be applied at a warm, luxurious-bath-water temperature. We use the most comfortable wax for sensitive skin and tiny wooden sticks to ensure least pain. However, because everyone’s skin sensitivity is different, we highly recommend that you make your Wax Specialist aware of any discomfort if you feel, for example, the wax is too warm.
3. REMOVE WAX RESIDUE WITH PROFESSIONAL AFTER-WAX OIL
Using professional after-wax oil will completely remove the wax residue and calm down your skin and release the pain if any. Some places use baby massage oil leading to pore clogging and ingrown hair after wax.
Finally, we rejuvenate the waxed area by applying our after-wax lotion formulated with tea tree oil and antioxidants to help prevent and clear ingrown hairs and breakouts as well as calm and nourish the skin. This deluxe product is also available in our spas for purchase and using at home.
E. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF BIKINI WAXING AND HOW TO TREAT THEM
REDNESS AFTER WAXING
This will disappear over time. With our wax specialists, your waxed skin can be a bit red for a few minutes depending on your skin sensitivity.
INGROWN HAIRS AFTER WAXING
To prevent ingrown hairs or further skin irritation, we recommend that you use after-wax lotion at home as it helps to kill the bacteria and provides antioxidants to prevent and clear ingrown hairs and breakouts as well as calm and nourish the skin.
STUBBLE AFTER WAXING
It’s possible that the hairs just below the skin’s surface have sprouted after your wax service, resulting in a stubbly feel. Moisturizing daily between services is a must; dry or brittle hair can easily break during a wax service. But don’t worry, just go with the flow - allow these hairs to grow so we can remove them next time we see you.
F. FREQUENTLY QUESTIONS ABOUT BIKINI WAX
HOW LONG IS THE HAIR? HOW OFTEN?
Your hair should be at least a ¼ inch long (about the length of a grain of rice), to allow the wax to grip around the hair. We recommend you refrain from shaving for at least 2 weeks before your reservation. After your first wax, it is recommended to wax every three to four weeks.
CAN I GET WAXED IF I’M HAVING MY PERIOD?
Sure. Just be aware that the area is often more sensitive during this time, so you may experience more discomfort than usual. In order to successfully complete the service, you will need to wear a tampon.
CAN I GET WAXED IF I HAVE A SUNBURN?
Waxing on sunburned skin is OK. However, we will not perform services on sunburned skin that is irritated or unhealthy. Believe us, you wouldn’t like it if we did. When your skin has healed, you can book a reservation.
IS IT SAFE TO HAVE A BRAZILIAN WAX WHILE PREGNANT?
First, congratulations! Second, yes, you can still wax. However, you may experience more skin sensitivity due to the hormonal changes your body is going through. Our Wax Specialists will make you as comfortable as possible during the service.
